Little Acorns Pre-School was set up in 2012 by two primary school teachers, to provide a high quality, inclusive, early years service for the local community. It is situated opposite a thriving, local national school, adjacent to a beautiful woodland and four miles from the town of Westport. Educating children between the ages 3 to 5 years, it participates in the free ECCE programme for this age group, offering full and part-time places within this scheme.
Our Ethos
At Little Acorns, we believe in the development of the whole child. Our holistic, therapeutic approach creates a child-centred learning environment where children can grow and learn as unique individuals. Play is a child's natural language and toys are their words and therefore our ethos is based on valuing children's play as the most important part of a child's early life experiences. It is at the core of their emotional, intellectual, social and physical development and has huge therapeutic benefits in regulating emotions and behaviour. This is key to future academic achievement.
Our curriculum is a child-led play model where outdoor learning is a fundamental aspect. This model supports children in developing relationships, language, creativity, confidence, self-esteem and a sense of identity and belonging. We nurture each child's individual interests by valuing their ideas, extending their play and using these observations as a basis for our weekly planning. We hope that all our Little Acorns will leave as confident, inquisitive, independent thinkers, with a growing thirst for knowledge and a love of the natural world around them.options from the toolbar.
